Afrobeat sensation Rema secures the 'Best Afrobeats' award at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in a competitive field featuring top Afrobeats artists, adding another accolade to his impressive career.

Rema Claims Top Honor in Best Afrobeats Category.

Afrobeat sensation, Divine Ikubor, known as Rema, emerged as the winner in the 'Best Afrobeats' category at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). Rema outshone industry heavyweights such as Davido and Burna Boy to claim the accolade in this newly-added category. The category's nominees also featured Asake, Aya Nakamura, and Ayra Starr.

The awards ceremony took place on Sunday, November 5, at Paris Nord Villepinte, France. Organizers demonstrated their recognition of the ever-evolving Afrobeats genre by introducing the "Best Afrobeats" category, showcasing their commitment to staying on the cutting edge of the industry's developments.

Despite the award ceremony's cancellation due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, the winners were announced on Sunday, November 6, 2023. Rema's win in the "Best Afrobeats" category marked a significant achievement, and Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania secured the 'Best African Act' category.

Nevertheless, Rema and Selena Gomez's collaboration, 'Calm Down,' came up short in the "Best Collaboration" category, where Jung Kook and Latto's 'Seven' took the award.
