Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has officially designated nine fresh Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to join the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Each of these newly appointed RECs will serve a five-year term, contingent upon the Senate's confirmation.

In accordance with a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu made these appointments, exercising his authority as provided by both the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act of 2022.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has entrusted these recently appointed RECs with the responsibility of carrying out their duties while upholding the utmost standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.

According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu has exercised his authority under Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, Amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022). This exercise has resulted in the approval of nine (9) new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These RECs will serve a term of five (5) years each, subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. The appointed RECs are as follows:

  • Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne, appointed as Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
  • Mr. Bamidele Agbede, designated as Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
  • Mr. Jani Adamu Bello, selected as Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
  • Dr. Taiye Ilayasu, appointed as Kwara State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
  • Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, chosen as Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

  • Alhaji Yahaya Bello, appointed as Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
