AY Sets the Record Straight on Skit Misunderstanding with Seun Kuti.
Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has refuted claims of depicting Seun Kuti's daughter as a dog in one of his skits. Kuti had recently stated that he mocked AY in response to a skit video where AY satirized an altercation with a police officer, featuring a dog in the back seat of a car.
Addressing the allegations in a video shared on his Instagram page, AY clarified that the dog in the skit represented Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, who gained notoriety for consuming dog meat. He emphasized his love for children and asserted that he wouldn't demean a child in such a manner.
AY explained that as a stand-up comedian, he often provides commentary on trending issues through his comedy. He pointed out that his skit in question addressed the fuel subsidy and the trending topic of Hilda Baci and Enioluwa eating dog meat.
He acknowledged that in Nigeria, comedians are sometimes taken more seriously than politicians. AY mentioned that both he and Seun Kuti have exchanged words in the past, including Kuti criticizing him for accepting a national award.
Seun Kuti responded on Instagram, expressing his disappointment with AY's actions. He asserted that he understood the implications and timing of the skit, dismissing AY's explanations. Kuti maintained that the only person in the back seat of his car was his daughter, refuting the portrayal in the skit.
He also criticized the perceived arrogance in the entertainment industry, emphasizing that they should not overestimate their influence. He concluded by urging AY not to tag him in videos.
