Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu expressed a firm commitment to eliminating hunger and poverty in the state, emphasizing a strategic focus on bolstering the rural economy through agricultural investments. Speaking through the State Government's Secretary, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, at the State Ministry of Agriculture's 2023 World Food Day event, Mbah highlighted the administration's determination to elevate the state's economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion through substantial investments.

The governor stressed the intention to attract investors, support farmers, and fortify the rural economy by showcasing an array of agricultural produce. He lauded the farmers' contributions and pledged comprehensive backing to bolster the state's economy.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of farming in the state's economic growth, Mbah underscored the aim for food security and anticipated substantial progress, envisioning an overflow of farm products at future events. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Patrick Ubru, highlighted the theme of the event, "Water is life, water is food, and leave no one behind," underlining the crucial role of water in ensuring food security and commending the governor's efforts in providing consistent water access.

Ubru emphasized the transformative power of water in enabling year-round farming, boosting crop yields, diversifying agriculture, contributing to rural development, poverty eradication, and improving livelihoods. He called for reflection on the positive strides made in water provision and its impact on agriculture, stressing the importance of prioritizing community needs to surmount challenges collectively.
