Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde underscored the pressing need for a massive overhaul in the education infrastructure, estimating a staggering sum of approximately N70 billion. Speaking at the Government College in Ibadan during the commissioning of various projects initiated by the school's alumni, Governor Makinde emphasized the critical role of collaboration between the government and private entities to elevate the standard of education and revive the institution's former eminence.

Expressing gratitude for the efforts of the old boys' association, Makinde acknowledged the limitations of the government in singularly addressing the multifaceted challenges within the education sector. He urged well-meaning individuals, alumni associations, and other stakeholders to unite in a collective effort to transform the educational landscape.

The Governor highlighted the selfless commitment of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) to the betterment of the school, emphasizing that the initiatives undertaken were aimed at benefiting future generations rather than their own offspring. He called upon other alumni associations to follow suit, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to the growth and development of their respective alma maters and the broader education sector in the state, thereby complementing the government's initiatives.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Makinde inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3-in-1 court catering to basketball, volleyball, and handball, alongside a renovated library and two technical education workshops focusing on metal and woodwork. The latter, generously donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, aimed to bolster technical      education in the state.
