The Senate has unanimously agreed to pay tribute to Senator Kunle Oyero, a distinguished member of the Second Republic Senate, as he approaches his 100th birthday anniversary on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

This decision stemmed from a motion of immediate significance presented by Senator Shuaib Salisu during a plenary session, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in Ogun State. Senator Salisu emphasized the significance of commemorating Senator Kunle Oyero's centennial milestone, acknowledging his substantial contributions to the nation's progress.

The motion received joint sponsorship from Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and Senator Ede Dafinone, the son of Senator David Dafinone, a contemporary of Senator Oyero. Senator Oyero, as described by the legislators, stands as an eminent figure—an elder statesman, a prominent legal figure, an exemplary public servant, a remarkable philanthropist, and a former Senate luminary who achieved the noteworthy age of 100 on October 28, 2023, being born on October 28, 1923.

During his tenure in the Second Republic Senate, Senator Kunle Oyero represented the Ogun Central Senatorial District alongside renowned personalities such as Senators Dr. Joseph Wayas (Senate President), Olusola Saraki (Senate Leader), Abraham Adesanya, and David Dafinone.

Senator Salisu highlighted Oyero's accomplished legal career, citing his enrollment at the English Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1955, admission to the Nigerian Supreme Court in 1956, and subsequent roles within the Nigerian Bar Association. He emphasized Oyero's substantial contributions to the nation, especially during his senatorial term in the Second Republic, underscoring the necessity to honor and celebrate his remarkable life and service to the country.

The Senate was urged to dispatch a delegation to partake in a colloquy marking Senator Oyero's 100th birthday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on November 11, 2023. Additionally, Senator Salisu requested a congratulatory letter from the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to be sent to Senator Oyero.
